Resignation letter from the US Director of Counter-Terrorism
(27 March 2026) (CH-S) Whilst the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran is viewed worldwide as a breach of the obligation under international law to resolve inter-state conflicts without the use of force, the White House claims that it is a preventive war of defence.

Karoline Leavitt, Press Secretary of the White House, announced on X on 17 March: “As President Trump has clearly stated, he had strong and compelling evidence that Iran would attack the United States first.” Not a single piece of evidence of this “compelling evidence” has yet been presented to the global public. Instead, for weeks hundreds of innocent people have been killed; alongside military targets, homes, schools, World Heritage sites, energy and water supply facilities and hospitals have been bombed; and, moreover, the whole world has been plunged into a highly dangerous economic crisis.
Joseph Kent, a previously highly respected loyal civil servant and government official, resigned as Director of the National Security Centre because he knew full well that there is no legitimate justification under international law for this war of aggression.
