In a nutshell

Federal council runs amok

Not only Amherd is acting single-handedly

by Thomas Scherr*

(13 September 2024) When Ignazio Cassis spoke of a “reset” in January 2018, people thought he was finally getting serious for Switzerland in the EU negotiations... But “reset” obviously meant a much more thorough process, namely, to reset Swiss history completely and start again with the Habsburgs. But this time as subordinates ... This thinking seems to be spreading among the authorities and cadres in federal Bern.

Everyone knows that joining NATO, PESCO or the EU harbours risks for a small state like Switzerland. But if you look at the goings-on in Bern, you get the impression that gravity no longer applies there. You can throw stones into the air, and they disappear into space. It’s great. This impression is heightened to the point of unbearability by the unanimous echo of our major media houses (NZZ, TA-Media, SRG, etc.). Yet the reality remains as simple as it is plain – gravity still applies.

  1. If you go along with NATO (overflight rights, Sky Shield), then you are on their side. What other conclusion should the Russian army planners draw from the behaviour of the Amherd’s Federal Department of Defence? The consequences: Nuclear-tipped hypersonic missiles take aim at the Alpine transversals or the MOWAG armaments plant. Sky-Shield will also fail. Thank you, Viola Amherd!
  2. The same applies to the EU military alliance PESCO, which is under US support. Does Amherd want not only Brussels to suffer hypersonic bombardment, but also Bern and Zurich? Thank you, Viola Amherd!
  3. The “bilateral” cuddle with Ursula von der Leyen is aimed at surrendering people’s rights. Because what the EU wants must apply. There will only be a court of arbitration under EU dictates. Brussels dictates. Why is the federal government being so cruel? Answer: It does not yet dare to let the cat out of the sack in front of the electorate. It would have to admit that it is selling off the people’s rights for small benefits from lobby groups. Thank you, Ignazio Cassis!
  4. The 4th of March 2022 will be etched into Swiss history in a similar way to Pilet Golaz’s speech in June 1940. A dip into the bottom drawer. A history-forgotten, faint-hearted and embarrassing abandonment of the country’s fundamental values – and, as always, without consulting the people. The date will be associated with the name Ignazio Cassis. Bravo Ignazio Cassis!
  5. Some federal councillors, national councillors and federal employees act like EU employees in Brussels. Who they listen to and what additional “support” they receive remains their secret. A long way from the people.... Bravo federal parliament!
  6. The actions of Amherd and her lobbyists are like those of the Austrian government: Signing NATO treaties, despite neutrality in the constitution. Creating facts bypassing the people. All just to undermine the neutrality initiative?1 As if such a thing could possibly turn out well. Goodbye Viola Amherd!

Pulling the ripcord means remaining neutral and upholding the people’s rights. It’s that simple. It’s nothing more, but nothing less either.
