Neutrality or NATO?

The battle for neutrality begins!

Security policy study commission on NATO-course

(13 September 2024) Lauterbrunnen, 29 August 2024 – The “Study Commission on Security Policy” appointed by the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) presents its report. The one-sided commission turns its back on Swiss neutrality and calls for military affiliation with NATO and the EU. The Commission is despondent and denies Switzerland’s sovereignty in terms of security policy and independent national defence. It wants to offer military services abroad and hopes for military assistance in return. It is playing with fire and making Switzerland a party to the war.

Wrecking of Swiss neutrality? (Picture ma)

The commission is calling for the wrecking of Swiss neutrality. The neutrality policy should follow the UN Charter and distinguish between aggressor and victim, which is a contradiction in terms for a neutral state. The commission wants neutrality to be limited to its security policy function and thus be handled more “flexibly”. In the process, Switzerland’s openness to the world, Swiss peace diplomacy and the humanitarian role of neutral Switzerland are being sacrificed on the altar of NATO-EU power structures.

The Commission’s recommendations will be incorporated into the “Security Policy Strategy 2025”. For “Pro Switzerland” it is clear: this strategy means NATO-EU membership.

• “Pro Switzerland” strongly condemns the one-sided composition of the commission and its out-of-touch demands.

• “Pro Switzerland” calls on the Federal Council to rein in the political leadership of the DDPS and to exert influence on foreign and security policy with wise foresight.

• “Pro Switzerland” will mobilise all its forces to put a stop to these dangerous activities and help the federal popular initiative “Safeguarding Swiss neutrality” to achieve a breakthrough.1
