(5 July 2024) (CH-S) Article 18 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949 states: “Civilian hospitals organized to give care to the wounded and sick, the infirm and maternity cases, may in no circumstances be the object of attack, but shall at all times be respected and protected by the Parties to the conflict.”

Why Won't the US Help Negotiate a Peaceful End to the War in Ukraine?

For goodness' sake, negotiate!

by Jeffrey D. Sachs,* USA

(28 June 2024) For the fifth time since 2008, Russia has proposed to negotiate with the U.S. over security arrangements, this time in proposals made by President Vladimir Putin1 on June 14, 2024. Four previous times, the U.S. rejected the offer of negotiations in favor of a neocon strategy to weaken or dismember Russia through war and covert operations. The U.S. neocon tactics have failed disastrously, devastating Ukraine in the process, and endangering the whole world. After all the warmongering, it’s time for Biden to open negotiations for peace with Russia.

China springs a BRI surprise on US

by M. K. Bhadrakumar,* India

(28 June 2024) The report of the death of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was an exaggeration, after all. Within days of the US President Joe Biden’s acerbic remark during an interview last week with the “Time” magazine that the BRI has “become a nuisance graveyard initiative,” a trilateral intergovernmental agreement to commence construction work on the “China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan” (CKU) railway project was signed in Beijing on Thursday.

Switzerland – NATO

Open lettre of an American naturalised in Switzerland

Dear Madam President of the Swiss Confederation, Ms Viola Amherd
Dear Federal Councillor, Mr Ignazio Cassis

NATO is neither a peace nor a defence alliance, but since 1991 an organisation that has been trying to usurp the tasks of the United Nations.

NATO is an organisation that is incompatible with the Charter of the United Nations (Art. 52) and acts against the objectives of the UN.

Dependence on foreign weapons systems

Armed neutrality and the Swiss army

by Ralph Bosshard*

(28 June 2024) From a discussion on the careless handling of Switzerland’s neutrality – which the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) department management and the army leadership have cultivated since the mid-1990s – one aspect that moved many listeners was that of armed neutrality.

Europe – with PR into the Third World War?

Massive disinformation via mainstream media also in Switzerland

by Robert Seidel,*

(21 June 2024) Some news items in the flood of current reports seem like a nightmare from times gone by: In spring 2024, one European politician after another announced that they would supply more weapons to Ukraine and, if necessary, send their own soldiers. Today, all signs point to the fact that some European governments are willing to fight the war for the USA on European soil. It is inconceivable that it is still possible to organise something like this in the 21st century – inconceivable after two catastrophic world wars and the threat of nuclear overkill.
